1. Policy Statement and Commitment
LC&CTA is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion throughout all aspects of its training provision, organisational practice and professional relationships.
As a counselling training provider, we recognise that equality, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to ethical counselling practice. Counsellors work with individuals whose experiences, identities, cultures, beliefs, backgrounds and circumstances may differ from their own. Developing the ability to recognise, understand and work respectfully with difference is therefore an essential component of professional counsellor training.
LC&CTA is committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where all students, tutors, staff, placement providers and service users are treated with dignity, fairness and respect.
We recognise that promoting equality does not always mean treating everyone identically. Individuals may require different forms of support, reasonable adjustments or consideration of individual circumstances in order to access training fairly and demonstrate their competence.
This policy reflects LC&CTA’s commitment to:
- Equality of opportunity;
- Anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice;
- Respect for diversity;
- Accessibility and inclusion;
- Professional accountability;

The development of these qualities forms an important part of preparing students for safe and ethical professional practice.

Students are encouraged to engage in reflective dialogue and to consider how their own experiences and perspectives may influence their counselling practice.
7. Assessment, Progression and Professional Standards
LC&CTA is committed to ensuring that assessment processes are fair, consistent and accessible.
Students are assessed against clearly defined learning outcomes and professional expectations. Equality considerations are applied alongside the requirement that all students demonstrate the necessary competence, ethical awareness and professional suitability expected of a counsellor in training.

- The needs of the student;
- The requirements of the programme;
- Assessment integrity;
- Professional standards required for counselling practice.
The aim of reasonable adjustments is to provide equitable access whilst ensuring students can demonstrate the competencies required for safe and ethical practice.
